{Lover.ly & Serving up Beauty} Oscar de la Renta-inspired wedding makeup
Whenever I meet with a bride to preview her wedding makeup, I first ask to see a photo of her dress. I can learn so much about a bride’s personal style from her choice of attire, and the color, shape, and embellishments will greatly inspire the final makeup. I strive to create a look that will complement and enhance my bride’s wedding day fashion, rather than competing with it – as well as one that will make her look & feel amazing!
When wedding planning website Lover.ly asked me to blog about wedding gowns and corresponding beauty looks, I was flattered – and a teensy bit overwhelmed! After all, there are SO MANY gorgeous dresses to choose from, and at first I didn’t know where to begin. Until I was bowled over by a STUNNING Oscar de la Renta dress (hint: it’s the third one shown below), recalled his recent passing (such a tremendous loss to the fashion world!), and decided to focus on three of his amazing creations.
Here’s how I would beautify the bride who dared to wear these gowns:
Sophisticate-with-a-Twist
With a fitted silk silhouette and trumpet skirt, this dress is sleek and sophisticated – but the creases along the bodice and the draped bow on the skirt keep things playful. I immediately envisioned a smoky eye with a hint of pinky plum tones and lush lashes (smoky eyes don’t always have to be black & grey, especially for weddings). These shades will complement any iris color beautifully but will REALLY brighten up green and hazel eyes!
To keep the look soft, I finished with lightly flushed cheeks and glossy lips in a nude tone.

Reddy Romantic
With miles upon miles of ruffled organza and tulle, this frothy confection just screams “I Do!” I yearned to see a pop of color jump out of that sea of white, and nothing says romance like red lips. For this particular model, I selected a bold orange-red shade (applied with a brush for precision), and kept the eyes and cheeks softly defined with satin earthtones.

Something Blue
This dress absolutely took my breath away – love the lace sheath, love that swishy train, and most of all, I love that nontraditional color! I would recommend the opposite of blue for the makeup: warm, shimmery peach tones on the eyes paired with soft peachy-pink lips & cheeks. Makeup doesn’t have to match your dress, especially when you’re wearing a color like this!
