Vanna’s wedding at the Equinox Resort in Manchester, VT
Those who know me know of my lifetime love affair with the state of Vermont. (My paternal grandfather Marshall* was a dairy farmer in the rural Northeastern part of the state, so I spent many childhood summers and most winters visiting the farm with my family.) I have so many amazing memories of my many farm visits, and even learned some useful lessons as a kid:
1. Don’t chase the hens or the rooster will totally attack you
2. Crouch really low if you’re attempting to duck under the electric fence
3. Snuggling with a fluffy newborn calf in a pile of clean straw is the best thing ever. (But don’t get too snuggly with the working animals, like the Belgian draft horse or the border collie, because they’ll only put up with so much childish affection.)
I love any excuse to get back, and I live very close to 91 so it’s an easy commute – and an enjoyable one, thanks to the winding mountain roads and the exceptional views. I’m always pleased to book a wedding up north (and love getting to see the photos afterwards!)
Vanna’s wedding didn’t disappoint. I loved the touches of purple in her bridesmaids’ dresses, flowers, and desserts (to avoid being too matchy-matchy, we went with smoky earthtones for the makeup instead of purple) and the clever use of vintage VT postcards for table cards! It’s such a pleasure to share these pictures from her September 2015 wedding.
Yes, Marshall Washer, for those of you who are Hayden Carruth fans and know the poem named after him!
